Lebanese Army Commander Visit to Melbourne on 24/25 May 2018 As part of his official visit to Australia, Army Commander General Joseph Aoun visited Melbourne following his visits to Canberra and Sydney. On Thursday evening May 24, 2018, a dinner party was held in his honor under the patronage of the Consul-General of Lebanon in Melbourne, Dr. Ziad Itani, at the invitation of the President of the Lebanon- Australia Chamber of Commerce, Mr. Faddy Zouky and in the presence of a large number of members of the Lebanese community.
The Consulate General organized an official program for the Army Commander in Melbourne, where he visited the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in on May 25, 2018 and laid a wreath. He also visited the House of Representatives in Victoria, where he held a business meeting with Minister Marilyn Kairouz and MP Nazih Elasmar and Cesar Melhem.

The Commander visit to the Parliament concluded in a meeting with The President of the Legislative Council, the Hon. Bruce Atkinson MLC, during which they discussed bilateral relations between the two countries and means of activating them.The Commander then held a meeting with the President of the Lebanese Australian Medical Association Dr. Waleed Ahmar and the delegation accompanying him. The meeting discussed the possibility of cooperation with the army in various medical fields.
